Romare

Romare

disco_naivetedisco_naivete
Romare uses samples from songs, speeches, interviews, field recordings and combines this with twostep, all to explore the connection between African and African-American music. The result is a very forward-thinking, unique four-track EP Meditations on Afrocentrism (which is out now on Black Acre) that takes the best out of both worlds. Just like the artwork, it is a collage - an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. This is how Jai Paul would sound like if he’d spend a Summer recording in Africa. Highly recommended.

Marika Hackman lives in Selborne, Hampshire (aka the centre of the universe) and is influenced by various artists such as Laura Veirs, The Shins and Joni Mitchell. She plays in a band with Alfie Johnson (cellist) and Flo Robson (backing vocals). She mainly plays guitar and sings, however she has a wide range of musical talents such as; piano, drums, bass guitar, accordian, maracas and the spoons. She has played in prestigious venues, such as the St Moritz Club and is rumoured to be the next big thing in that folky indie saucy culture. To find out more visit her myspace page on which you can listen to some of her tunes, especially her most famous, ‘Sirens”
The Child of Lov

The Child of Lov

SelfBlownSelfBlown
If what we’ve heard about The Child Of Lov is true, then this is year is going to be one sensational year for music. This first insight into his musical venture is filled with so much passion it’s nearly making us cry, and such vintage references that we can’t believe it’s actually coming from a stream on Soundcloud. This is bringing music back to it’s roots and where it all began, but filling it with such emotion and modern effects that it’s set in a world of it’s own. The Child Of Lov is one of our favourite new acts of the year.
